Oppression
Under the rule of Nicolae Ceaușescu, daily life in Romania was marked by fear and control. The secret police, known as the Securitate, closely monitored citizens, neighbors, coworkers, even family members could be informants. Basic freedoms like speaking openly, traveling abroad, or accessing uncensored information were heavily restricted, and dissent was often met with surveillance, intimidation, or imprisonment.
